My approach
to therapy

Every therapist is unique, so it’s important that you find someone who feels like they can be of the best support to your healing.

I always like to remind my clients, “You are the expert on you.” I just happen to bring a specific set of skills that are meant to unlock your sense of knowing who you truly are.

While you may read the list of therapeutic modalities I am trained in, my approach is profoundly relational, playful, and inquisitive. I am naturally a very curious person, and I allow that curiosity to guide me in each session. I see myself as a collaborator with you in your healing — an equal partner — and because of that, I like to workshop ideas with each of my clients to initiate the path forward.

Clients who see the most transformation while working with me are those who are curiously minded, too. Questions are wonderful (and gentle!) invitations to allow us to explore what might be underneath.

And they work both ways! I encourage my clients to not only ask me questions but also to provide me feedback so that I can alter what I’m doing to be of best support to you. This goes back to you being the expert on you — the more I know what feels supportive (or not) the better I can adjust how I show up for you so that we make more progress on your healing journey.

While tough topics certainly can and do arise during therapy, I find that allowing in ample humor helps generate even more healing. Laughter can break the tension and it promotes connection.

My intention is for you to:

  1. Feel safe with me,

  2. Feel less alone, and

  3. In time, feel hope for what’s on the horizon.

The beauty of therapy is that it often leads to powerful insights. But those insights alone don’t translate to healing. If we don’t actively integrate the insights that arise during any given session, then they may melt away like a snowflake.

This is why, when appropriate, we’ll work together to translate those insights into doable actions you can implement right away.

So what does it really look like to work with you?

What you can expect from me…

  • I will be your partner who is willing to “get in there” and help you navigate through whatever pain you carry.

  • I will ask for consent before we explore any challenging topics.

  • I will safely guide you to explore present sensations and past experiences, all with the express intent to promote your healing.

What I ask of you…

  • Keep an open mind, be willing to experiment, and be ready to do the work.

  • Understand that as an autonomous being, you have a role to play in your healing. It is not something that something or someone outside of yourself can fix. Therapy is meant to be a tool for you to utilize.

  • Be honest with me, stay curious, and maintain a mutual respect for our humanness (yours and mine).
